Pattyn Von Stratten Burned, written by Ellen Hopkins, describes the hardships that Pattyn Von Stratten is faced. Pattyn is the oldest of nine children with the help of her sister Jackie; they help raise their siblings. Pattyn 's mom was a very depressed mom who did not take to her children, and her dad took to Johnnie Walker and wrongdoing on his wife and two oldest children. Being raised mormon has questioned her faith due to the abuse and neglect of her parents. While she is questioning her faith, she gets in some trouble and gets shipped off to her Aunt 's house in Nevada where she finds the love of her life.

Miniver Cheevy, in “Miniver Cheevy,” has a few character traits that show his true personality. The reader sees his traits as being single, of a low social status, a drunk, and being lazy. The author shows many other traits in the short story, but these three are what make his personality. His overall personality as being an underachiever is seen in the character traits.
The Cunning In the story “The Cask of Amontillado.” Montresor is the narrator of the story as he was the one who murdered fortunato. Considered fortunato a friend Although he only saw him as an acquaintance and because of this he caused Montresor great pain which later turned to montresor leaving fortunato to die. As said in the text, fortunato caused him “THE thousand injuries”( Poe 2). Because of causing montresor this pain that wasn 't explained explicitly.
As the story progresses it becomes exceptionally evident the role external conflict plays in creating Montresor’s character. To begin, Montresor mentions “the thousand injuries of Fortunato” and the revenge he is determined to get from the most recent injury, an insult (Poe 543). By Montresor choosing to open the story with remarks about Fortunato’s wrong doings towards him, it’s clear that he holds a grudge. These conflicts between the two men throughout their friendship have had such an impression on Montresor that it’s over taken him – it’s all he can think about; thus, he immediately mentions these conflicts at the beginning of the story. In result, Montresor as a character appears quite hostile and as a narrator appears unreliable.

Maupassant’s Boule de Suif is set in late 19th century France during the Franco-Prussian war and focusses on the journey of ten very different characters travelling from Rouen to Le Havre. The short story illustrates to us the long journey of the ten passengers by stagecoach and the tensions which arise between such contrasting characters. Through the use of a third person omniscient narrator, Maupassant introduces to us the main character of Boule de Suif and the nine other passengers sharing the carriage with her. The ten are all unique and are divided in terms of social class and political views. We have in the extract under examination, the scene in which Boule de Suif begins to form a bond with the others by sharing her food with them.
