Throughout the centuries, many people have been diagnosed with the title “Psychopath.” A psychopath is someone who has a mental disorder that causes them to act violently towards people in society and is unable to show sympathy or remorse after what they have done. Canada has had many notorious psychopaths over the years, but there is always one that must outshine the rest; so to speak. Paul Bernardo was not only a psychopath, but he was also named “Canada’s notorious Serial Killer and Rapist” or better known as “The Scarborough Rapist.” This essay will examine Paul Bernardo’s case from beginning to end, and also prove why he is properly labeled as a psychopath.

Over the span of seven years, Paul Bernardo was able to rape and abuse about twenty-three girls and even murder three of his victims. Each attack was more stomach-turning then the next. Paul Bernardo’s target was young girls, the youngest being fourteen and the oldest being twenty-two. He stalked them as they got off of the bus late at night, and then began to attack and rape them viciously. His first attack was May 4th, 1987. His victim was a twenty-one year old girl who was getting off of the bus late one night to go to her parents’ house. Paul then raped her in front of the house, having the attack lasting about thirty minutes. The second attack occurred on May 14th, 1987. The victim was a nineteen year old girl who was attacked in her backyard and this attack lasted over an hour. July 27th, 1987 was when Paul made an attempt to rape his third victim but was unsuccessful. Even though Paul gruesomely beat the girl she managed to fight back enough to get away from him. On December 16th, 1987 Paul successfully raped his third victim who was a fifteen year old girl. This attack was much more vicious and it lasted about an hour. As a result of three rapes over the span of a few months the police issued a warning telling all women traveling home late at night to take caution because there was indeed a sexual predator on the loose in the Scarborough area. If not to set fuel to the fire, Paul attacked his fourth victim on December 23rd, 1987. The girl was seventeen years old. After this occurred the police felt it was necessary to give Paul the title as “The Scarborough Rapist”. Paul laid low for a while because the next attack wasn’t until April 18th, 1988.
