When thinking of a close-knit killing team, couple Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka may surface in our minds. Better known as The Ken and Barbie Murders, the blue-eyed, blonde duo were a haunting fit for one another. Paul Kenneth Bernardo was born in Toronto, Ontario on August 27, 1964. His family was extremely wealthy, but highly dysfunctional. His father, Kenneth, was abusive to his mother, Marilyn. After cheating on her husband with an ex-boyfriend, Marilyn became impregnated with Paul. She listed her husband, Kenneth, as Paul’s biological father on the birth certificate. Her family lived in St. Catharines, where Karla worked as a veterinary assistant. According to her mother, Dorothy, Karla was an extremely intelligent girl who learned to speak at a very early age. She scored an IQ of 135 in third grade and was considered a great student who was eager to learn. A close friend from second grade stated that Karla seemed obsessed with drawing houses, fanatically occupying her time with carefully coloring them in. She was known to be an obsessive, hard-working perfectionist who mainly aimed to please her teachers and parents instead of following the other children her age.
