Even though his little brother would make varsity as a sophomore a excel in everything his brother couldn’t. So far i have not finished this book but I like this book a lot it has meaning. This book isn’t hard to read at all it is an average book to read. The author did a good job of writing and presenting the story with his word choice and good descriptions of people,
With the support of their families, William’s and Arthur’s motivation to accomplish this goal led them to fantastic high school basketball careers. From viewing the film, I found that I share William’s and Arthur’s determination. William, for his entire high school career, braved a 180 minute round trip commute to school and back. He spent three whole hours almost every day in transit to attend one
This story focuses on the actuality of young men who endure testing accusations, but there is always a way out, basketball, in this demonstration. This book takes place in the 1980s throughout the town of Harlem, New York. The author uncovers that Lonnie lives in the ran-down part of town and that
It is a story about friendship and about how two different people can come together, work together, and become friends. This book wasn't about basketball or coaching but about how two different people can become lifelong friends and stay that way until they die. As Bill said they were two completely different people. They didn’t care what they looked like; all they cared about is what one could give the other. “A true friend accepts you, no questions asked”(158) meaning they did not have to ask them about themselves they just accepted who they were.
1. What is the SUBJECT of the text/communication act? Be specific. (Don’t say “potatoes” if the subject is really “ten easy ways to prepare potatoes a family dinner.”) • The Subject of the text The River is ways brian can survive and keep Derek alive in the forest all alone.
Based on the mural image "Going to the Olympics" by Frank Romero 's he was paid to create a work of art in the Los Angles free way. In my opinion I think its a work of art because this is a mural image and the time it and pride it took makes it a work of art. The time and the paint it must have taken to make this image its very impressive. I can see the culture and creativity they are trying to show. They graffiti in LA show what Los Angeles is all about and based on my personal experience each time I go to LA
Music David Leonhardt’s “Chance and Circumstance” is an intriguing story about Malcolm Gladwell and his outstanding achievements in the field of journalism. He goes further into Gladwells childhood, being raised by some accomplished parents. “His mother was a psychotherapist, and his father was a mathematician.” (Leonhardt 579).
In Paolo Bacigalupi’s ‘The Gambler’, the main character, Ong, travels to the United States to work for a futuristic media company. This story emphasizes on three main ideas; media, information and technology. After reading the story, I connected the main themes to the world, to myself, and to this course. First, after reading, I connected the main ideas to both contrasting countries present in the story; these being Laos and America.
Have you ever been on a cruise ship? Did you wake up early without your parents to go eat? Well, what if you had the whole boat to yourself? In Avi’s True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle, the Seahawk could have been very dangerous for Charlotte to go on by herself. For example, the ship could have been taken over by pirates or Charlotte could have gotten sick during the voyage.
In “Friday Night Lights” the progress to achieve goals are disrupted by the conflicts that character’s have to face. Boobie Miles is the top HS recruit in the country for his position, but his entire life was changed after a terrible career ending injury causes him to change his goals. In the text people would comment Boobie without football he’s nothing because he just didn’t have the intangibles to be a regular person without football “Boobie Miles without the ability to carry a football in his hand, might as well get a broom and start preparing for his other destiny in life- learning how to sweep the corners of storerooms.” Boobie would then have to sit out a couple of games due to the injury which would give him a lot of time to think
John Updike begins “Perfection Wasted” with the line, “And another regrettable thing about death is the ceasing of your own brand of magic, which took a whole life to develop and market” (Updike, line 1-3), he says that one of the downsides to dying is losing everything you’ve worked your whole life to get. We work hard most of our lives to become something other than ordinary and when we’re finally extraordinary we start to wither away and die. He goes on to say that the phrases we’ve been known to say, our sarcastic statements, and our bias towards certain people all die with us. When we die we take all the delight and sorrow we’ve caused from the world. No one can make someone feel the way we have.
This novel was exceptionally peculiar, which made the book nearly impossible to predict and held my attention until the very end. Matthew Quick was able to write a story I could easily relate to because of my passion towards basketball and common hardships teenagers endure. Moreover, frequent scenarios within the novel showed realistic struggles within violence that are very relatable and realistic in the 21st century. For instance, the internal struggles of high schoolers such as jealousy and trying to fit in. On top of this, it was astounding to see all three dynamic characters, Russ, Erin, and Finley develop throughout the story, as all three grew their friendship and learned from one another leaving you breathless.

Television is often regarded as a fun way to cool down after a long day. Some, however, are known to be tools to bring awareness to topics that are in need of drastic reconstruction. One show that did just that was the HBO original, The Wire. The Wire critiqued policing and corruption in inner city Baltimore, a rarity in television. The show was dense and had many plotlines, but it was obvious to every viewer, that the creators took very specific positions on the problematic climate that Baltimore faced, and still faces today.
As I walked into the basketball court, I could feel the excitement of a new season. Players getting ready for the game, parents talking to others, coaches talking about points of emphasis, and referees waiting for the players. We started the game and by the first half, I scored 7 points. The score at halftime was 15 - 14. The Bears were winning.
