As the war of 1812 came to an end a completely different Canada began to take shape. A British controlled monarch with Canada held political and military power over the regions of Canada. By the 1830 's Canada was a prime destination for main setters that seeks refuge from the economic stagnation of Europe. Some thirty thousand settlers from Europe, varying in class and wealth, land on the shores of Canada, mainly in Montréal, in hopes to find a prosperous and successful life on the vast fields of western frontier, upper, and Lower Canada. The great expansion across Canada left settlers isolated from major settlements and the lack of roads and communication furthered the difficulties for properly pioneering the land.
Formed in 1957, the Federal Council for the Advancement of Aborigines and Torres Strait Islanders commenced their campaign with a series of petitions displayed in Source 4 that called for a referendum. This had the effect of not only mobilising support for a change to the constitution but also of informing the public of the issues facing Aborigines. Over the course of the campaign, more than 100,000 signatures were collected and presented to the Parliament in 94 separate petitions (NMA, n.d.). This was a key factor in changing politicians’ minds and the government’s stance (Koori Mail, 2007). A key factor of the support of the referendum by non-indigenous Australians was the Federal Council for the Advancement of Aboriginals and Torres Strait Islanders ‘Yes’ campaign.
Good morning/afternoon Mrs Jansen, Mr Cralwey and class. Prime Minister and human rights advocate, Gough Whitlam, led government into labour during his term from December 5 1972 until his dismissal on December 11 1975. Introducing indigenous rights and abolishing discrimination was one of the many legislations Whitlam put forward.
This essay will look at the aspects or reasons as to how and why the coalition government has won the federal election that took place on the 7th of September 2013. There are many reasons why Tony Abbott has won victory against the Rudd and Gillard government and to gain hundreds of thousands of Australian citizen’s trust. Reasons include; Tony Abbott putting a stop to the boats entering the Australian land, the abolishment of carbon tax and the reduction of the cost of living, Abbott promising to recognize Aborigines as nations first people, and lastly Tony Abbott took advantage the distrust that has been happening between the Rudd and Gillard Government to his power by pin pointing their flaws and issues thus making the citizens of Australia think twice on whether they should really put their complete trust in an unstable government to run the country given the economic difficulties happening today around the world. This essay will ideally discuss in depth as to why the coalition won the 2013 federal election and factors that has persuaded the citizens of Australia to vote for the Abbott government.
Smarter than any of his other brothers, Equality rapidly starts to realize what his cities council is trying to do to take away his rights as a human being. This short novel, Anthem, by Ayn Rand, a man by the name of Equality 7-2521 was a more intelligent than his other brothers in the community, and he was not content with sitting around letting the council try to brainwash everyone else, so he breaks several laws in the process of trying to discover new things that the council is trying to hide from him and his brothers. The council was not aware of these things and they were not going to let him try to do anything against them. To try to prevent anything detrimental from happening, they assigned him the job as a street sweeper where he couldn’t use any of his quick-witted mind against them
An Australian Republic is about us — not the Queen, not Prince Charles or the world economy. We should do it now, without delay. As Nelson Mandela once said, “ For to be free is not merely to cast off one 's chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others.” Until we break our last Constitutional links to the mother country, our nationhood is incomplete. Now after just over 115 years of Federation, Australia must finally join the world of nations as a full equal, unshackled to any other nation.
The One Nation Party (ONP) is not an aberration within Australian political life; historically ethnonationalistic movements and parties have long been present within the Australian political landscape. The New Guard, the Centrist Party, the Australia First Party, and the Australian National Socialist Party (ANSP) to name just a few. The presence of ethnonationalistic movements within Australia is ultimately a result of ‘unique phenomena growing out of specific political, social and economic conditions’ and requires ‘an examination of national contexts’ in order to ascertain why they exist and proliferate within not only Australia, but many other industrialised Western nations. To this end, a review regarding the emergence of the ONP will be

Can a Centrist candidate win an election? Yes, but not for the presidency. The Electoral College makes it nearly impossible for a third-party candidate to win the presidency. However, the whole thrust of "The Centrist Manifesto" is that the Senate is different.
I agree with so much of what you said in your post! I especially agree with the point you made about northern nativism not really developing until the south gave it a reason to. That 's so true and I honestly hadn 't even thought about like that. I also think that there were a lot of questions over American national identity and it was voiced most hysterically when the rise of sectional prejudices cast doubt on the unity of native America itself.
The Populist Party otherwise called the People’s Party was founded before the Civil War, the party consists of farmers, laborers, and socialists, where most of the populist came from the South and the West. The party adopted a system to change the debt-stricken way how the farmers, support the laborers and the shortening of workdays for the industrial workers and a few types of reforms, for example the right to referendums, recall and female suffrage, which many farmers and workers believed that the Populist Party was a voice for their anger and a gross for inequality and injustice in the American society. In the meantime, Labor 's efforts to organize and collectively bargain with the trusts were systematically suppressed. All these things
When trying to define a word such as Liberalism it seems difficult to find a solid definition. There are different forms of liberalism and different meanings depending on the time period it is being applied to (idea taken from Phil Badger author from philosophynow). To solve this ambiguity, I’ve decided to define liberalism based on the time period in which I will be conducting my research. Liberalism in the 1700s was the belief of freedom and equals rights generally associated with the enlightenment thinkers, John Locke and Montesquieu (as defined by wikipedia.org). Liberalism didn’t start in the 1700s.
The “Misogyny” speech by Julia Gillard, the prime minister during the time, was performed in the house of representatives on 9th of October 2012. Clear usage of her role as prime minister, her gender and word choice are shown as effective shaming of the leader of the opposition, Tony Abbot. The speech was given because of Abbots sexist and Misogynistic statements. Because of Abbots position in parliament as opposition leader, he should be targeted to maintain power in the government and giving the elected labor party a good public image in the regards to sexism and Misogyny. In doing so she was able to defend her standpoint as a female minister of Parliament.
The movie “Independence Day” gives a lot of insight on how the decisions are made by the elite policy maker aka “the government officials”. These officials are influenced by many reasons for the actions they take. Some are making decisions based on their liberal ideals while others follow different ideals such as realist ideals. The clash between two different ideals in the movie showed the effectiveness of each of them. Liberal ideals are a form of an identity and they are really hard to be implemented on.
In the visual representation of King Claudius from William Shakespeare’s renowned play Hamlet, eight objects, images or origami, are displayed with conclusive representation of Claudius’s character. Starting off with a purple snake that stemmed from a drawing of its body, the serpent serves as a symbol of Claudius’s deviousness. Without even questioning such analogy, William Shakespeare himself had directly attributed Claudius as the emblematic “serpent that did sting … [Hamlet’s] father’s life” and took over Denmark (Shakespeare, I.v.39). In biblical illustrations of the paradise, a snake had convinced Adam and Eve to eat the forbidden apple out of malice and caused them to be banished down to Earth, and Claudius, too, had killed the previous
