The data collected was over four weeks, from May 11, 2015 to June 5, 2015. Ten hours days four days a week for a total of 160 hours. The average patient volume assigned to the nurse was 8-10 per day. I am writing to you in support of Toye Adefioye. Toye Adefioye shadowed me at Daughters of Miriam, a skilled nursing facility in Clifton, New Jersey, from 08/2013 to 06/2014 for over 1500 hours. Toye observed me while I provide therapy to patients of various diagnoses; diagnoses such as general orthopedic, neurological, cardiovascular, wound management, geriatrics, and so on. During this time, He was able to recognize and differentiate facts, and distinguish relevant from irrelevant information.
This was where I first developed my multitasking skills to oversee and coordinate four clinical research studies. My strong communication and interpersonal skills enabled me to meet crucial deadlines and work efficiently with physicians, nurses, pharmaceutical sponsors, and study monitors. I strive not only to be a great employee and team player but also to serve and positively impact my community, especially the medically underserved. For more than five years, I have volunteered over 1,000 hours, and most recently, I serve through the Lestonnac Free Clinic and Access OC organization as a Spanish interpreter. As a bilingual Spanish-speaking nurse, I hope to help my community by breaking down the language barrier between patients and the healthcare team in order to ensure the accurate continuity of care.

Monday October 26th: Today at Moses Cone hospital, I was in the role of student nurse. I had two patients; one a returning patient, and the other a new patient. The nurse I was working with is someone I have never worked with before or even seen on the floor, but she seemed to be familiar with the unit. It was about 3-5-45 minutes into the shift before we received hand off report. After about 8 minutes of waiting to get report on the rest of her patients, my nurse went ahead and started to see patients.
Professionalism whether in the workplace or an academic setting can easily be deemed comparable. Both settings necessitate the adherence to a set of values. These values may be established through a formally agreed upon code of conduct as exemplified in a work or student handbook or through the informal expectations of colleagues, clients, professors, or peers. The fundamental standards of professionalism include having respect for yourself, your colleagues, the material you are learning and your professors. There are many characteristics that contribute to being professional.
So I was left with no choice other than shadowing Dr.Azhar because the clinic was not very far, responded immediately to my call, and arranged an appointment shortly. Description: In week 7 we had visited Wesburn Manor, the Long-term Care (Clinical Placement) setting. It was our first time there, therefore as a group, we oriented the place. At this time, we went to each nursing station on each floor and introduced ourselves from the organization we were from and how we will be providing patient care to the clients in this setting. We were educated by our clinical instructor on the different access codes in the building, the policies and guidelines, our assigned floor and the appointed personal support worker. Our role of professionalism as a nursing student was represented as we came prepared and greeted each healthcare and staff member.
Today was my seventh visit at the Woodhaven Care Center. Both my CI and I, were scheduled to leave at the same time today, so for a change we were extremely busy trying to get as much done in a half day as possible. In this short time, I worked with five patients. I had four of the five go through various therapeutic exercises, gait training in parallel bars, and up and down a flight of stairs. Since a few of these treatments were new areas to me, my CI performed the action once and I completed treatment with the patents.
Upon arriving to the unit this morning, I quickly realized today was going to be a chaotic day with the current patient census, and all of the new admissions. I was able to assist the night charge nurse with today’s assignments, while she helped with the code, and the day began. I informed my team that today was going to be a long day, and encouraged them to use each other and myself for help. I recommended they taking a few minutes to coordinate their work after receiving report. At 0745, when Jane informs me that the patient in 408 has fallen, I am quick to get into the room and do an assessment again.
The fact that learning never stops, that you work and collaborate with some of the smartest minds around, and the uniqueness of each patient gets me very eager to enroll in a challenging DPT program with proven student success. I am very thankful for the experience I’ve had so far observing physical therapy and studying the sciences in my undergrad. I don’t think as many other careers are so open to allow students into their workspace and I look forward to one day being able to spark another young student’s interest in rehab therapy.
