The attack on Pearl Harbor all started because Japan wanted to take control over China. Japan wanted control over China for economic and demographical reasons. Japan also wanted to take control over China import market. Unfortunately, America was against Japan taking control over China and brought a different solution to Japan. The solution America had for Japan was a trade embargoes and economic sanctions. The oil embargo that America organized with the Dutch and the Britain was a thorn in the side of Japan. The offer was still being discussed between Washington and Tokyo when Japan decided to attack the United States.

By time it was 10:30 p.m., it was clear the Japanese were going to break diplomatic relations with the United States. A high-ranking U.S. officers began to be informed of the coming breach” (Paschall). The U.S. became alert about the imminent attack of the Japanese by decrypting a secret message that was being sent from Japan. Although the U.S. officials knew that Japan could be delivering a deadly attack, they lacked the information to know what the attack was about and where it would occur. The Japanese naval fleet, in order to prevent being discovered, arrived at the coast opposite of Pearl Harbor in Oahu early in the morning on December 7, 1941.
On that morning of December 7, 1941, Japanese fight planes attacked the American naval based at Pearl Harbor which is near Honolulu, Hawaii. During that surprise attack, the Japanese destroyed about 20 American vessels and that is including 8 battleships and about 200 aircrafts. The Pearl Harbor attack had over 2,000 service men die. The first aircraft wave, flying to Pearl Harbor from the opposite side of the island, was mistaken for American planes that were supposed to fly in to Oahu on that same day.
