Introduction: To begin to answer the question, sources will include books on the attack of Pearl Harbor and most importantly specific texts on the Japanese Military Leaders’ perspective. The three main focuses will be the Japanese diplomatic code and the U.S. Naval code, and impact of the Japanese Generals surprise attack on Pearl Harbor. The main focus will be on the achievements by the Japanese Generals.
Research question is: To what extent did the Japanese Generals achieve their goal of surprise in the attack on Pearl Harbor? The attack on Pearl Harbor was the largest attack on US soil in the history of the United States at the time (until 9/11). The surprise attack by the Japanese Navy Air was planned for a while, which led to the disbelief of the occurrence. Since the United States military leaders unprepared, Pearl Harbor was an alluring easy target.
The Japanese military code named Kido Butai on Pearl Harbor brought about numerous setbacks to both the Japanese and American powers, which was unexpected. In particular the achievement of Japans fundamental objective of annihilating the conceivable risk of the United States Pacific Army.

The news kept on coming into the President, each report more frightful than the last. At first, the men around the President were distrustful. The changed to fury was acceptable as new messages upheld and enhanced from the previous ones. Inside the initial thirty or forty minutes a phone circuit was opened from the White House to the Governor of Honolulu. The Governor affirmed the unfortunate news as he had learned it. Amidst the discussion, the Governor of Honolulu, told the President, "My God, there's another waive of Jap planes over Hawaii right this moment." With the United States’ focus elsewhere, the plan was to “Destroy the Pacific Fleet”. In less than two hours, the attack ended, devastating the entire U.S. fleet with significant damage.
