Pediatric Nursing Personal Statement

Pediatric nursing represents a challenging and demanding career; however, the rewards would be valued, and I am ready to embark on this career. Having worked with children since I was very young, this has strengthened my ambition to work in a career that enables me to help and care for pediatric patients, who may be in the same position I was in. When I was about 15 years old my health took a hit, as my mother, my biggest supporter, was incarcerated. I experienced extensive gastrointestinal consequences as a result of untreated generalized anxiety and depression. Losing my mother caused me to lose a part of myself; at 15-years-old, I participated in self-harm behaviors and was treated for Anorexia Nervosa. My experiences, as a teenager, started my ambition to work in pediatrics and to care for children as the nurses I encountered were truly inspirational. This stands as the main reason why I am immensely inspired to train in this field, giving my unsurpassed help to young patients who depend on health care professionals for their medical needs. Studying nursing has made me realize that nursing is much more than a profession, it is a way of life. Understanding this takes qualities such as dedication, intuition, reassurance, communicating effectively, playing appropriately with a child, and confidently handling parents’ distress. In addition to this, a pediatric nurse must also be reliable, trusting, able to develop relationships, interactive, compassionate, motivated, ambitious, and hardworking. I believe I currently possess these qualities and will further develop knowledge, skills, and abilities while working to the highest
