I will be attending graduate school in order to further develop my interest in clinical psychology that has been fostered during my undergraduate years. I anticipate to receive my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology during the summer of 2017 from Hunter College. I am especially interested in researching about the vulnerability factors that influence individuals’ susceptibilities to psychosomatic disorders, anxiety disorders, as well as psychopathologies. Ultimately, I seek to be in a research position along with being trained as a clinical therapist. Further along the line, I intend on becoming a professor, and to inspire new generations of students to become motivated and interested in psychology just as my professors inspired me.
I plan on furthering my research in how mental illnesses affect large communities, with my newly earned M. D/Ph.D. in Psychiatry and Biology. With the knowledge gained from medical school, I intend to give back to my community by opening a practice in my hometown of Gary, Indiana. As I reflect on the challenges that I have faced within my community, I am grateful. I wonder who I would have been if I had not been pushed to the limit and have been taught the values of hard work, education, and persistence. As I progress towards my future, I am eager for more misfortune because I know that from it I can rise and bring others up

It was under the most delicate of circumstances, when I realized what I was born to do for the rest of my life. It was march 2007, my grandfather was suffering from pneumonia and due to his deteriorating condition he was hospitalized. I had flown in from Toronto to be by his side. Sitting anxiously by his bedside with tears in my eyes wondering if I could do anything to make my grandfather feel better, I watched doctors come and go , updating us on his blood reports, EKGs, chest x-rays, ABGs, and at the same time constantly counseling my concerned family members. As they explained what they were doing to bring my grandfather to the path of recovery, I watched in utter fascination.

I found my passion for becoming a pediatrician when we take my brother to the doctor so they check him if he’s sick or something else, I saw how they heard his heart looked at him to see what was wrong with him. Also, a pediatrician is not only an extremely important job, but a career that demands a wide variety of skills, and a lot of patience.
A career as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner is a natural extension of my personal, educational, and research experiences. Although my path to nursing has not been a straight line, every experience that put me on this path has shaped my passion and dedication to psychiatric nursing. After losing loved ones to suicide at a young age, I made a promise to myself and to them that I would dedicate my life to helping individuals struggling with mental illness. This promise led me to study Psychology at UC Berkeley, where I fell in love with clinical research investigating the efficacy of treatments for mental illness.
I have worked in the healthcare field now for 23 years. I worked for 2 years as an LPN in a Veteran Affairs Hospital. Following my BSN graduation, I worked as an RN in a variety of specialties before deciding I was ready to advance my knowledge with an MSN degree. I have worked as an FNP in a variety of settings for the past 10+ years. I have spent my entire life hearing discussions related to the challenges of mental health as a profession and the satisfaction that comes from helping others.
One in five people in America suffer from a form of a mental health disorder (Mental health). Many people, especially children, develop severe mental illnesses which are usually left untreated for a very long time. Mental illness is becoming more and more common in today’s society. With more younger kids becoming vulnerable to possible mental health disorders, schools should be taking note. Schools in the United States should require mental health screenings; mental health problems can start very early on in life, school violence could be prevented, and suicide rates could go down.
Psychology plays a huge role in changing society and how individuals look at life. I believe this career path can make an impact on lives that are struggling daily, such as I did. With a psychologist 's help, I was able to cope with the negative aspects in my day, and be optimistic towards life, along with providing advice for others who may also be struggling. My ambition is to perform life defining acts with my words and advice, and as a psychologist, I believe this is possible through my ability to listen and be empathetic towards others. James Frey once stated, “A miracle is changing someone’s life.
A career in pediatrics If you love children and medicine is your calling, becoming a pediatrician is an excellent way to make a difference. “Pediatricians are physicians who provide health care to infants, children, and adolescent”(Ferguson). Usually a pediatrician meets your patient soon after birth and takes care of the patient through his or her teenage years. A portion of a pediatrician’s job is preventive medicine, also known as well care, which means that they have to see their patients periodically for routine health checkups. An amount of the pediatricians aims are to reduce infants and child rate of deaths, promote healthy lifestyles and help ease the problems of children and adolescent chronic conditions.
IMPLICATION OF CHILD PSYCHOLOGY: Developmental psychology is a scientific approach which aims to explain that how children and adults change with time. A significant proportion of theories within this discipline focus upon development during childhood, as this is the period during an individual 's lifespan when the most change occurs. Developmental psychologists study a wide range of theoretical areas, such as biological, social, emotion, and cognitive processes. Normative development is typically viewed as a continual and cumulative process.
Besides viewing this process as a foundation for future knowledge and abilities, I have been anticipating this stage of gaining deeper and professional knowledge in psychology for a long time. To summarize, this goal is elicited from my passion and enthusiasm for psychology, to remain focused throughout these three years, instead of gaining fame or impress others. After graduation, I want to engage in a job related to psychology, allowing me to serve others by applying the knowledge learnt. It may not need to be anything very great; I just hope to contribute to the society’s wellbeing, whether it is in the clinical setting, corporate world or any other aspects. Most importantly, I hope to raise awareness and acceptance towards mental disorders.
