In order to become a physician, students must complete 4 years of undergraduate school, 4 years of medical school, and about 3-8 years of residency. While in undergraduate school, a student must complete work in the following courses: biology, chemistry, physics, English, and mathematics. Medical school is highly competitive and students must submit their transcripts, MCAT scores, and letters of recommendations. In medical school, the first two years are spent in laboratories and classrooms, taking courses like psychology, anatomy, and medical ethics. In the last two years of medical school, students work with patients supervised by physicians in hospitals or clinics.
