Many people want to make some kind of difference in life. However, many people do not have or do not want to put in the effort that it will take to do so. The job of a pediatrician can be life-changing to many. Unfortunately, it takes drive and effort that many people do not have, to become one. A pediatrician’s job is a highly-skilled and interesting job because he or she has the privilege to deal with and help as many children as possible. As you may ask, what exactly is a pediatrician and what are their duties? Pediatricians are doctors who specialize and focus in caring for babies to young adults. In order to become a physician, students must complete 4 years of undergraduate school, 4 years of medical school, and about 3-8 years of residency. While in undergraduate school, a student must complete work in the following courses: biology, chemistry, physics, English, and mathematics. Medical school is highly competitive and students must submit their transcripts, MCAT scores, and letters of recommendations. In medical school, the first two years are spent in laboratories and classrooms, taking courses like psychology, anatomy, and medical ethics. In the last two years of medical school, students work with patients supervised by physicians in hospitals or clinics. Some skills and abilities can include active listening, critical thinking, oral comprehension, and speech clarity. These skills and abilities are crucial in these professions in order to have a better communication with the patients and their parents. The job of a pediatrician involves many tasks such as advising patients, examining the growth and development of children, referring children to specialists, and prescribing medication. In addition, pediatricians can perform research to study anatomy or develop medications. Furthermore, pediatricians are exposed to disease and infections and are consequently exposed to hazardous situations while working in a lab. The profession of a pediatrician is very important nowadays and very demanding as well due to the rise of new infections and disease.
Pediatricians can work for long, irregular, or night shifts depending on where they work. A pediatrician concentrates most of its time working with patients and the reward of this job is its salary.
