Have you ever been picked in a drawing to fight for your life against 23 other kids? In Susan Collins’s the Hunger Games, two kids names are drawn in the “Reaping” Peeta Mellark and Primrose Everdeen, Katniss volunteers as a tribute to let her sister Live. So Peeta and Katniss will have to fight against 23 other kids from the 12 different districts of Panem. Peeta and Katniss are “Star Crossed Lovers” but only one of them can win. In the middle of the games they announce there can be two winners if they are from the same district. Katniss finds Peeta severely injured and fixes him up in order to win. In the book, some examples of the characters feeling if they owe someone is when Katniss feels she owes Peeta for giving her the bread when they were little, Rue Pointing out the opponents coming towards Katniss when they were in the trees, and lastly when the people from district 11 give Katniss bread because of her kindness and gratitude. My first example of characters feeling they “Owe Someone” is Katniss feeling she owes Peeta for the time he gave her bread when they were younger. Katniss says that she hates feeling she owes someone and she wishes she would thank him for helping her feel less conflicted. On page 32 Katniss says “To this day, I can never shake the connection between this boy, Peeta Mellark, and the bread that gave me hope, and the dandelion that reminded me that I was not doomed.” “I feel like I owe him something, and I hate owing people.” “Maybe if I thanked him at some point, I'd be feeling less conflicted now.” This quote shows Katniss feeling she owes someone for something. She says in the quote how she hates owing people and how he gave her the bread and she felt that she wasn't all that
