Katniss and Peeta are two of the main characters in “The Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins. They are both from District 12 which is one of the poor Districts. Katniss volunteers herself to replace her sister Prim. Peeta is chosen to be a tribute. From the start Peeta has a crush on Katniss but she is oblivious to this fact. They live different lives in District 12 but both understand that to live, you must work. Katniss and Peeta have two different styles of fighting in the arena due to the way that they were brought up in District 12, their feelings toward each other, and their fighting styles/ choice of weapons. Before Katniss’s father died, he was a hunter along with working in the mine. He was the one who taught Katniss how to hunt and use a bow. Her best friend in District 12, Gale, also helped her gain hunting skills that she uses throughout the Game. Katniss demonstrated her skills with the bow to the Gamemakers which got her an eleven which was the highest in the 74th Hunger Games. Katniss used the bow she took from Shimmers dead body to hunt and kill other tributes throughout the Games. Katniss’s strategy throughout most of the games was not to give up. She fought hard for herself and tried not to kill anyone she didn’t have too. At first she was independent. She was tough and did not want others to see her true feelings. She makes this clear when talking about hiding her face from the cameras. Peeta on the other hand is more skilled with a knife. We can infer that this is from his experience working in a bakery. He is very unskilled at foraging which turns out to be of an advantage when he accidentally kills Foxface. He takes a more selfless approach to the Games from the start. Once he announces his love for Katniss he tries to help and protect her. Although they had different strategies on the games they complimented each other and together made it out
