Jerry Sandusky performed very repulsive and vile acts on juveniles over a 15-year period (Bohm & Haley, 2014). Prior to his actions rising to the surface, Sandusky was considered to be a charitable, family, and good man by his community. Sandusky achieved many things throughout his life, such as being the Penn State assistant football coach for 32 years (“Penn State Scandal”, 2018). Furthermore, he founded the Second Mile Charity in 1977. This charity was originally a group foster home for troubled boys, which later became a non-profit organization focusing on the individuality of juveniles and helping juveniles become productive citizens. It is hard to imagine that someone who had built a reputation for encouraging, assisting, and guiding juveniles could commit such heinous acts.

On November 5, 2011, Jerry Sandusky’s life as he knew it would forever change, as he became a part of the judicial system (Bohm & Haley, 2014). On this day, Sandusky was charged and arrested with 40 counts of molesting children. These crimes were committed on eight different boys from 1994 to 2009. June 2012, Sandusky was convicted of 45 counts of sexual abuse against boys. The maximum sentence for these crimes that he faced was 442 years in prison. More than likely Sandusky will die in prison since he will not be eligible for parole until the age of 98 (Bohm & Haley, 2014). Anyone who sexually abuses children needs very harsh punishment. Children are extremely gullible as it is, but what is more disgusting about Sandusky is how he used his position to perform these crimes. A coach and/or a caregiver are adults who children look up to and trust. Sandusky used this position as a way to not only engage, but also hide his vile acts.
