Next, we determined the mass of the penny by placing it on a balance. The mass of the penny was 2.47 grams. Afterwards, we placed the penny in a beaker filled with 20 mL of 6 M HCl. In the end we put the beaker in the fume hood and allowed it to sit overnight. During day two of the penny lab, we removed the penny skin from the beaker using tweezers.
Introduction For two days, on the 14th and 15th of April, a field excursion to Hastings Point, New South Wales was conducted. At Hastings Point, topography, abiotic factors and organism distribution were measured and recorded, with the aim of drawing links between the abiotic factors of two ecosystems (rocky shore and sand dunes), the organisms which live in them, and the adaptations they have developed to cope with these conditions. Within these two ecosystems, multiple zones were identified and recorded, and this report also aims to identify the factors and organisms associated with each zone. Lastly, using data and observations from the past, predictions for the future of the rock pool ecosystem were made.

In this week’s lab we had to determine the density of a quarter, penny, and dime. My question was “How does is each coin?” Density is the amount of mass in an object. To find the density of each coin in this lab, we used a triple beam balance to find each coin’s mass and a graduated cylinder to find their volumes. With all this information, I can now form a hypothesis.

Introduction Metabolism is the sum of all anabolic and catabolic reactions within a living organism to sustain life. The energy required to perform these reactions is provided by oxygen in the form of ATP, therefore the oxygen consumption rate can be measured to determine the metabolic rate. Since oxygen is obtained through respiration, the efficiency of an organism’s respiratory system affects its metabolism. Previous studies have shown that caffeine affects the human respiratory center and occasionally dilates bronchus. It can thus stimulate human respiration and increase the metabolic rate (Haggins et al, 1915).
PURPOSE The goal of this lab was to build a mousetrap powered car. The mousetrap car needed to travel fifteen feet. The purpose of building these mousetrap cars was to demonstrate our knowledge of motion, friction, force, distance, and energy. We have studied these concepts, and each one is a factor in the success of a mousetrap car.
Regret is a powerful emotion that has the ability to scar someone for the rest of their life. Moments of regret can come from relationships, self-made decisions and life changing events. The idea of regret also applies to “A Marker on the Side of the Boat” by Bao Ninh and “On the Rainy River” by Tim O’Brien. Although these two literary pieces are very different in many ways, both authors describe the experience of the Vietnam War as a time of regretful decisions that negatively impacted people of both the American side and the Vietnamese side. Both authors tell a story about a character that recalls of flashbacks of the war, where they grieve over the past decisions that have affected them for the rest of their life.
Blackfish The documentary Blackfish, directed by Gabriela Cowperthwaite released in July 2013, explores the mistreatment of killer whales and the relationship between the killer whales and trainers as well as the significant problems of the sea-park industry, with a focus upon SeaWorld. Cowperthwaite positions the audience to feel sympathy towards the killer whales by making deliberate choices in sound, visual, language, and structure through the representation of trainers as unprofessional, and whales as mistreated, also experts as reliable information source. Firstly, Cowperthwaite uses effective language techniques to position the audience to view the trainers as undertrained and unprofessional.
For this particular project, the Atlantic Crossing, two separate boats were made, the first being the Shook and the second being the Shooketh. The goal of this project was to launch a successful boat from one side of the trough to the other in a reasonable amount of time. The variables being tested on during this time was the boat shape, the angle of the propeller, and the rudder size. After several vigorous tests and comparing the data a conclusion was reached about which combination of variables would allow for the most success launch in the shortest amount of time. The main factors within the testing would be the incline angle of the propeller, the area of the rudder, testing procedures, along with others.
The purpose of this lab was to change pennies from copper to silver to gold, like alchemists have attempted to do in history. Through the data and observations gathered throughout this experiment, it can be concluded that the pennies were not changed into a different element. For example, the density of the penny from 2005; which was the penny that was experimented on to see whether or not it could turn into silver; was 4.62 g/cm3 before the experiment and 4.89 g/cm3 by the end of the experiment. If this copper penny really would have turned into silver, then the density of the penny would be 10.49 g/cm3; which is the density of silver; by the end of the experiment. The penny may have turned silver in color, but this was only because it was plated in the zinc that was added to the beaker of water in the experiment.
Also, the penny is too heavy and takes up space. The government has been trying to ship pennies to military bases in foreign countries.(Source 2) They have been doing this because they need to use currency to buy food or merchandise. Pennies are said to take up too much space in people’s homes like dressers and cabinets.(Source 2) This was said during a speech during a discussion to remove pennies or to keep them.
