The penny press has a major impact on the world of news, journalism, and even advertising. Before the introduction of the penny press, the newspaper industry had a complete different look. From the way that they were written and produced, to the way that they were bought and delivered to the reader, they were different. The penny press is responsible for changing the newspaper industry into something that we are able to recognize today. The New York Sun was the first penny press published. It was soon followed by the Evening Transcript and the New York Herald. This new type of newspaper changed how the other newspaper were run. Papers before were taken up by mostly ads, and the articles could get out of hand quickly. Writers multiple times wrote direct pieces about other journalist that they believed weren’t as good, or didn’t agree with their opinion. Articles were mainly pointed at wealthy businessmen. The penny press helped bring in news for everyone. Events throughout the day would be put into the paper. Maybe it was an accident, or a major event that had happened near them. The penny presses also helped bring about the idea of having journalist all over the nation, for example in Washington D.C. This helped bring about more detailed articles from across the nation.
