Are people solely good or evil? Some others would reply yes, but Graham Greene the author of "The Destructors" would respond differently. He believes people aren 't just good or evil. The author reveals his belief through his characterization of Trevor and Blackie, along with his use of irony.

The characterization of Trevor is one way the author reveals his belief that people aren 't just good or evil. He characterizes Trevor as not an entirely evil person. Trevor is somewhat evil since that he came up with the plan to destroy Mr. Thomas 's house, which he could have avoided if he chose not to do. However, Trevor is not entirely evil since he has some morals as proven when he did not physically hurt Mr. Thomas while performing his plan of destroying his house, which he could have, which furthermore proves that Trevor is not entirely evil. The characterization of Blackie is another way the author shows his belief that people aren 't just good or evil. He characterizes Blackie as not a completely good person. Blackie is not completely good since he is the original leader of the Wormsley Common Gang, which means he encouraged people to commit crimes. Despite not being completely good, he still has some morals as proven when he did not physically hurt Mr. Thomas, which he could have. Blackie 's action by encouraging the gang to commit crimes and Blackie has morals proves that Blackie is good but not completely good. Besides the characterization of Blackie, the author uses irony to show his belief that people aren 't just good
