That the media’s extreme focus on how a girl or a woman should look like creates a misleading thought that women’s value is portrayed by their outward appearance. In Ada Maria Isasi-Diaz Mujerista Discourse: A platform for Latinas’ Subjugated Knowledge, she talks about the term “Lo Cotidiano” which translates to “the everyday” (Isasi-Diaz pg. 46), and she explains how this term is more complex than the actual meaning. She also explains that ‘lo cotidiano’ and the way every person lives their ‘cotidiano’ connects with the main idea of Mujerista Discoourse. In her writing, she discusses some personal experiences which bring a better understanding to the true meaning of lo ‘cotidiano’. Isasi-Diaz gives an in-depth explanation to what ‘lo cotidiano’ really means, or what it should mean.

Rhetorical Analysis of “The Necessity to Speak” Sam Hamill writes his essay “The Necessity to Speak” not in response to a particular event, but the series of violent, harmful events that lead to a silence that must come to an end. He effectively uses different methods of persuasive argument, namely the tools of rhetoric. Hamill has the clear purpose of advocating “the articulation of one’s truest and deepest response” to a world of “lies and silence about violence” (Hamill 473); he desires a world where instead of people refusing to speak, people refuse to stay silenced. The best way to get readers to abandon their silence is through the use of ethos, pathos, and logos.
Grasping the many rhetorical modes Reading through this article on the rhetorical modes admittedly helped simplify the different rhetorical forms that can be used for writing in aspects of life and not just school work. As I read through the articles I began to feel more comfortable with the diverse forms of writing therefore, knowing these vast forms of writing, will not only help to better understand what the author is trying to say in any given writing, but, also help with confidently know which direction to take when composing my own literary work. Giving a speech whether being for the public or not, offers personal, professional, and public benefits for the individual. The individual might find it easier to obtain a profession, build better relationships amongst peers, or even propel social movements by carefully constructing and delivering a well thought out speech. A speech needs to be excellent in order to do such things; it needs to have a clear concise thesis, a preview statement, a great organizational pattern, supporting material, memory, delivery and good representation of oneself. Thus, during the process of constructing and delivering a speech, one must have those aspects. This will ensure the speaker will deliver a powerful and moving speech.
Perception is the organisation, identification and interpretation of sensory information in order to represent and understand the environment. Like perception, logic plays a role in critical thinking. Critical thinking is the process in which one mentally explores deeper than the superficial matters at hand into the deeper layers in order to find out what the real issues are. However, when it comes to weighing their beneficial impact on the critical thinking process, logic and perception are by no means equal. While logic is firmly rooted in reason, perceptions are just as firmly rooted in one’s senses and can easily be corrupted.

In Jamaica Kincaid’s essay “On Seeing England for the First Time”, she clearly voices her animosity towards the one place her whole life surrounded as a child in hopes of persuading her audience into understanding that there is a fine line between dreams and realities.
