terary Analysis: Interview with the Vampire Interview with the Vampire is a Dark Romantic novel written by Anne Rice. It is about Louis sharing his experience with immortality with an interviewer. In 1791 after the death of his brother, Louis became suicidal, which made him an easy victim for Lestat. Lestat convinced Louis to become a vampire, and Louis deeply regretted his decision. When he decided to leave Lestat, Lestat created Claudia, a five-year-old vampire; this child kept Louis bound to him in guilt. Lestat experienced the greatest change in the book, Interview with the Vampire, and merits a detailed exploration of his changes.
As terrible as Lestat seems, he was not always an evil character. At this point of the book, Lestat’s father was on his deathbed. He was attempting one last time to gain his forgiveness and to have his son back, the way he once was. His father apologized for taking him out of school and destroying his books. His father told Louis, pretending to be Lestat, “You have it all to live for, but you are as cold and brutal as I was then with the work always there and the cold and hunger! Lestat, you must remember. You were the gentlest of them all!” (Rice 55).This quote shows that Lestat was not always the cruel man that he was then.
