Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief was created in the brilliant mind of an author named Rick Riordan who had helped him along a journey to fame. In fact, he's so famous that over 190 million copies of his books are in print worldwide, and have been sold in more than 37 countries. (“About Rick Riordan”). After quitting his job as a teacher, Riordan began writing mystery novels for grownups. His Tres Navarre series went on to win the top three national awards in the mystery genre. (“About Rick Riordan”). Originally, Riordan was not serious about writing.He focused most of his creative energy on music, and was lead singer in a folk rock band! (“An Interview With Rick”). His readers are thankful that his music career didn't pan out. Rick Riordan has done many things, but his forte ended up being writing, and his readers are the beneficiaries of his talents. Yet another book that earned Riordan his award-winning status is The Red Pyramid, the first book in the Kane Chronicles trilogy. One of the best things about The Red Pyramid is the humor.
