The bestselling book Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, is a modern-made, greek mythology fiction book written by the one and only, Rick Riorden. Young Percy Jackson, goes from being a normal kid, to being. not so normal. Friends, Percy Jackson, Annabeth Chase, and Grover Underwood, go on a quest across the United States starring Greek gods, fighting monsters, and of course MANY near death experiences. This book includes themes of love and friendship. But it’s not all unicorns and rainbows, there’s betrayal, sadness, and teenage problems. One of the best points of humor in the book is the sibling banter between Sadie and Carter. For example, in chapter 11, Sadie says, “Right, I’m taking the microphone”. There is no chance Carter would tell this part properly, as it’s about Zia. Shut up Carter. You know its true. ]” (Riordan 130) “Right, I’m [Sadie] taking the microphone. There is no chance Carter would tell this part properly, as it’s about Zia. Shut up Carter. You know its true. ]” This reminds me of me and my brother when we want to talk about something, readers with siblings will definitely relate to parts of this story. Riordan brings funny elements into almost every story, even when it doesn’t need it, for example, in The Red Pyramid, Riordan writes this. “‘Gnome?’ I [Carter] asked, as we followed him [Amos - a mysterious character] up the stairs. ‘Like those little runty guys?’ ‘Heavens, no,’ Amos said. I hate the gnomes. They smell horrible.’” (Riordan 52). This shows Jordan’s master sense of humor, turning an Egyptian word into a clever pun. The Egyptian word nome means “location or region of the world,” but Carter gets it confused with a garden gnome. Riordan is a very funny person inside his writing and a funny person in general. Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, is a fiction book written by Rick Riorden. This book mixes modern times, humor, action, and of course, Greek mythology. As you read this book, you can learn about the characters and experience being a not so normal teenager through love, friendship, and greek gods. Overall, Rick Riordan is a phenomenal author, and once you’re hooked, you’ll be sure to read all of his novels for many years. Rick Riordan is a humorous person with an amazing way of writing, he brings aspects of many different styles into his stories. What would you do if one day you randomly “pushed” someone into a fountain but you don’t exactly remember touching them?
