The start of the quest, Traumatic event archetype, and Good v.s. Evil theme concept have been modernized in Percy Jackson and the Olympians -- The Lightning Thief from the original, “Danaus, Perseus, and the Gorgon”. Paragraph 1 will be talking about the modernization of the events in the stories. One of the biggest things modernized was the forms of transportation they used. In the original story there were no cars. The biggest mode of transportation used in that time was boat, or if you are a demigod, flight. First of all, the traumatic event was modernized. In the original story, Perseus’s traumatic event was when he and his mother were sent in a box down a river. But obviously this wouldn’t happen today, and the traumatic event in Percy Jackson’s story was when his mother was taken. The second theme that was modernized was Atonement to Father. In both stories, they had gods as fathers. In Perseus’s story, it was more of Atonement to Grandfather. He wanted to right his Grandfather's wrongs and not be anything like he was when he locked him and his mother in the dungeon. In Percy Jackson’s story, Percy believed his father was a horrible person and thought he was doing this quest with no help, even when he could of had help. The hero type that was modernized is The Prodigy. In both stories the hero starts out knowing little, but meets his mentor of grizzled old timer. The way they met the mentor and who the mentor was has been modernized. In the original story, Perseus’s box is caught by the fisherman, his grizzled old timer, who teaches him everything he needs to know to survive. In Percy Jackson’s story, Percy meets his mentor without realizing it throughout school, and it turned out that Chiron was the grizzled old timer and his
