When people think of movies they think of the time we have here and now, most do not think where has this come from, was it history, or was it just some social event that happened to get a lot of publicity. Movies in today’s society are altered to reflect the 21st century, with the technology advancements, and the way that the story is interpreted with many changes to society. This movie Percy Jackson Sea of Monsters is a great replication of the Odyssey and many other great epics of its time. There’s a reference “Holy Styx” which is a great reference to the underworld that Odysseus has to encounter (Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters). There is a lot that has to change and is changed for the concept for the audience that is watching to understand what went on in the past and what is about to go down, of course technology is a huge change and it has a big impact on how the movie was administered. They also focus on this time and what is needed to change, to adapt it to the 21st century. There is so much that goes on in The Odyssey, and so much that goes on in Percy Jackson and the Sea of monsters, each have similarities. There is no pure evidence that it was supposed to copy the Odyssey, but it seems like the series of movies happens to relate very much so from the Greeks and Romans. This movie has changed the idea of the Odyssey, it is not the entire story as a whole, just made into a movie, it takes bits and pieces to make a story in itself. Both stories start out in the middle of the action, “in medias res”, not really knowing what happened before we got to that part. Now when the movie first starts off it is in the middle of a huge action piece. Odysseus has three major themes, the wondering of Odysseus, the quest of Telemachus, and the return and vengeance.
