SETTING This story takes place in the present time. But to be the most accurate, it takes place everywhere; underground, in the sea, in the sky, and all across the United States. Some of the places the story mentions the readers have may heard of. Percy, the main character, lives in Queens, NY with his mother in a small apartment. Another place that the story mentions is “Camp Half-Blood”. It's a camp for young demi-gods and demi-goddesses. But in other words, it is the children born from Olympian gods and their human boyfriends/girlfriends.
PLOT
The plot of this story is when the lightning bolt is stolen and Zeus suspects that Percy Jackson, the son of Poseidon, took it. Zeus gives Percy ten days to retrieve it. If Percy did not return it in time, then Zeus will start a war amongst all of the gods. During Percy’s journey, his best friend named Grover, is physically handicapped and reveals himself as Percy’s protector. Mr. Brunner (Percy’s teacher) gives Percy a pen that turns into a weapon to protect himself from anything that might cross their path. Percy faces Hades in the Underworld and tries dangerously to save his mother.
