Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs is a fantasy story about children with powers and the monsters that hunt them. This book is not all about Miss Peregrine and her children’s home, but more about the peculiar children that live there. The children are all special in their own way. Some can use fire, float, and even turn invisible. The narrator of the book, Jacob Portman, seems very normal but thinks about whether he could fit in with the children at all. Jacob tries to learn more about his grandfather's childhood that turns out to be more peculiar than he could have ever imagined.
The story takes place in Florida at the beginning but mostly takes place on Cairnholm Island in Wales on September third in 1940 during

When Jacob grows older he stops believing in the stories. When Jacob is fifteen and at work his grandfather starts to talk about monsters coming after him on the phone but Jacob and his dad believe it is just his dementia. When Jacob goes to check up on his grandfather he finds him dead and catches a glimpse of the monster that looked exactly how his grandfather described the monsters in his stories. No one believe Jacob when he said his grandfather was killed by a monster and he starts having nightmares and depression. His psychiatrist, Dr. Golan, suggest he go on a trip to the island his grandfather was raised in to see nothing exciting or peculiar was going on there. Jacob finds a box of old photos like the ones his grandfather had shown to him as a kid in the children's house that his grandpa was in during the war. He is found by two of the peculiar children that run away from him and lead him through a cairn, which turns out to be a portal into the past. It takes him to the day before Miss Peregrine’s home was destroyed by a bomb during WWII. The house is perfectly fine and full of children. Miss Peregrine explains to Jacob that his grandfather used to live there but then left to fight the hollowgast, the monsters that hunt peculiars. To keep her children safe, Miss Peregrine created a time loop that repeats the same day
