Littorina spp, or more commonly know as the periwinkle snail, is a small robust species that inhabits the intertidal zone and are commonly used in the preparation of many dishes in countries such as England and China. Littorina spp commonly ranges from sizes of 0.5-1.5 inches long with dark and even banded shells which help it to withstand strong waves. There is no definite life span of the periwinkle snail however, the amount of food and environmental factors can play a role in how long they can live for. Unlike most snails during breeding, Littorina spp often can spend more time out of the water as the embroys are contained within a brood sac and are unaffected by the external changes in the environment. In this experiment the research objective is to determine how far Littorina spp will travel within a given time frame in two different water salinities of 10 ppt and 30 ppt.
