“A wallflower is someone with an introverted personality type, but who still seeks out and partakes in social events on a fairly regular basis. They are often socially competent enough to be liked and attend social groups but may choose or feel the need to blend in and remain silent.” This quote explains me perfectly and that is why The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a completely relatable movie to me and my life. This movie is based on a character named Charlie who describes himself as a wallflower. He describes a wallflower at the beginning in of the movie in these words: “You see things. You keep quiet about them and you understand them.” Charlie is a teenage boy who at a young age was molested by his aunt and as he got older suffered from a mental illness. He wasn’t the most popular kid in school but he had friends that loved him and that’s all that really mattered to him. During high school I felt the same way as Charlie did. Charlie and I also are similar in how we get in social situations. To us it is easier to sit back and listen to everyone else and keep to ourselves. It’s not always easy to talk to new people or to make new friends. The Perks of Being a Wallflower helps point out that there is nothing wrong with you if you are that kind of person. This movie also touches on things like self-harm, sex, love, friends, losing people, and self-acceptance. I can relate to almost all of these things now and during my teenage years. All of these things are the things that help you find yourself who you are. This movie shows Charlies going through the stages of his high school years figuring out how to deal with all these things. Laughing all night long, finding love, poking fun at friends and losing people are all things from the movie that I have experienced
