Courage is pushing on until the obstacle is overcome, or the will to push ceases. Courage is not the absence of fear but the perseverance and bravery to face it, whether failure or victory is the predicted outcome. In Harper Lee’s “To Kill a Mockingbird”, courage is correctly defined as knowing you’re defeated before you even try, but continuing on anyways (Lee). When it is the right thing to do, possessing the perseverance and bravery to continue fighting an uphill battle is considered courage because a person would be exhibiting extraordinary moral strength and will.
