This relates to The American Heritage Medical Dictionary’s definition of perseverance which is “the tendency to continue or repeat an act or activity after the cessation of the original stimulus.” (Perseveration) Long after poverty had stimulated the Moore family in Canada to seek a better life in Michigan, Thomas and his family continued to pursue a more prosperous future for themselves and for their children. As found on etymonline, perseverance is from Old French Perseverance, “persistence, endurance,” and directly from Latin perseverantia, “steadfastness, constancy”. These roots of durability and hard work relate to my definition of perseverance, which is the ability to continue towards a goal, despite obstacles that stand in the way. The Moores had a goal—to escape poverty.
People think perseverance is a drive fueled by the passion to reach certain goals or goal-oriented, but perseverance is a long-term commitment and a lot of discipline to improve our skills and performance through persistent effort. The Scar Boys by Len Vlahos is a wonderful example that having perseverance can push you to reach your goals. Through the use of character, situational, and symbolic archetypes, Len Vlahos develops the concept of “perseverance” by showing the group of companions always sticking together in gritty situations, and how they persevere through that moment. Through the book, the group becomes a band, “The Scar Boys.”

Is perseverance is an essential human quality? In life, we are faced with endless misfortune and difficult decisions. A person can think of how they do in each difficult situation they face the same way a character in a movie goes through the character arc. An example of this is when your mom tells you she can't afford to send you to your favorite summer camp this year. You have two options, Accept that your family can't afford it or raise the money needed by getting a job.
Perseverance Life is the toughest thing you will do in your life. It is the test on how well you can survive the world, and all of its cruel punishments. The determination to live comes from human nature. But the urge of giving up when we come across a difficult problem is also a part of human nature. There a few people in this world that have the characteristics of resilience. As author Kendra Cherry describes them, "People that are able to keep their cool have what psychologists call resilience, or an ability to cope with problems and setbacks" (Source A; Cherry, 1). An example of someone who has the characteristics of resilience is a bombardier name Louis (Louie) Zamperini.
By thinking of his family, Salva is able to keep walking even though he’s tired, thirsty, hungry, and his feet hurt. The second example of Perseverance is when Salva is in the refugee camp. Have you had a situation where determination saw you through, where you were told that you couldn 't do something that you wanted to do, or that you were not good enough?

Another example that showed Nick’s perseverance is when he’s, “...encouraging others by sharing his story through motivational speaking.”
“Negative” emotions are never thought to be beneficial or accepted in society. Every person believes that when not happy they should shut down and refuse to accept their alternate emotions. Never is there a thought that these unhappy thoughts could be the ones to help perseverance and drive. When angry there is an aspiration to be happy again, when saddened there is a hope that a smile will once again grace the face, and when frustrated there is a want to have a positive distraction. Happiness should not be desired in everything; other feelings are acceptable.
