One thought that she had that showed her perseverance was, “The more objections they made, the more determined I was.” This happened when Charlotte decided to join the crew after the captain killed two other members. She wanted to join them so badly that the more they objected, the more she wanted to join them. Another time, when the captain shot Mr. Cranick, Charlotte yelled, “I’ll go right to the courts! You won't be captain any longer!”

In the second section of the book, “Unbroken”, the author talked a lot about the experiences of the crew that Louie was with when he joined the army. Louie ended up with Phil and several other men to form a crew with their plane, a B-24 model, which they named “Superman”. They were all great pals who went through thick and thin together, but they believed the chance of survival was slim. One day, they barely managed to get it back to home base on one mission when the enemy relentlessly attacked their plane. However, one crew member was beyond help and several more had injuries that rendered them unsuitable for battle, their plane was also unrepairable.

In the book Night, Elie Wiesel describes his struggles as a Jew in a concentration camp using a depressing and serious tone, meant to reflect the horrific conditions the Jews were forced to face and the theme that adversity can cause a loss in faith. From the time Elie first arrived at the camp and heard everyone saying prayers, to when the young pipel was hung, and even when the Jews had to make the long, arduous, trek to the other camp, the reader could see his faith dwindling as he continued to question where his God was and why he wasn’t helping the Jews. The novel “Call of the Wild” Buck shows perseverance by not giving up his leadership throughout the book when he got his new owners and new sled dog teammates. Even though he had to fight to keep his leadership, Buck never lost the leadership.
Another reason perseverance is an important theme in A Long Walk to Water is because Salva had to cross the Aboko desert for 3 days. Also, “Salva’s shoes stood no chance against the hot stony desert ground. page 52 ,” which means that Salva's shoes were reduced to shreds and he had to walk on the hot ground for 3 days. Also, because Salva’s shoes broke, he lost a toenail by hitting it on a rock and still had to keep walking. In addition to that pain, Salva had little water and food to keep him going.
