Dunaway had drove the ball over the shortstop 's head and had rounded second, it had been a close play, so she slid into third. The umpire, strong and confident, stood up and called her out. Tears rushed down the young girl 's face, as the coach, coach Dalfino, yelled at her saying, “This is no circumstance to cry.” The athlete had walked off of the field, limping in pain. Seriena’s team had two games that day so, once the second
Tamika was starting to get frustrated because this has kept her successful all throughout high school. So, Tamika being stubborn, she did the drill for a third time only this time she did what she thought was going to be more successful. Consequently, the coach stopped the drill again and by now she was irked, she hollered, “Catch! How many times do I have to tell you?” After that, Tamika shouted back, “but it doesn’t work that way!”
The lesson that she learned that is that even in the worse situations there is
Through bad news, Jasmine grows as a person, learning to ignore what others say about her, especially if they are
She gets through the transition of being in this horrid environment by convincing herself that it’s all a bad dream. This shows perseverance because she finds a way to cope with the traumatic events she is going through to stay alive and get herself out of this terrible ordeal. But what she does not know yet is how much strength it’s going to take to make it through these events until she finally is
and I know that will take a lot of hard work. Growing up in a supportive family, I’ve been taught that working hard is the only way to become successful. Of course, nobody’s journey is easy, and I feel that Tiana’s story really displays that. I feel that I have odds against me just as Tiana does. She becomes a frog and misses out on many opportunities just as I am an African American.
“I’d learned early on that I had to be as disciplined about finding time to finish homework as I was about training in the gym.” Shawn had her homework done a month ahead of time to be able to train at the gym after school. Sometimes she would have a little bit of other homework that she would have to do after practices at night. Fitting in at school was not an easy thing for her to do, she stated to herself and got her work done so she could train after school with her friends. Her parents always wanted her to be in school activities, so sometimes Shawn would be picked up from practice to go to football games.

Perseverance is Key Between the passages of the short story, “Rogue Wave” written by Theodore Taylor, the author establishes the theme of the story as never give up when things go wrong because when you give up hope the smallest opportunities of success is lost. The author demonstrates the theme when Sully tries to save Scoot, “Over the next five or six minutes Sully dove repeatedly using his foot as a fulcrum, and using all the strength he had in his arms, legs, and back in an effort to open the doors” (Taylor 8). The author notes that Sully used his full strength, using all of his body to save her, trying multiple times without giving up. Through these words, the author shows that Sully tries extremely hard to save Scoot and how Sully dives
I finally arrived on the field, I sat on the chilled ground of the soccer field prepping my shin guards and shoes. As I was getting ready I notice a really small and hairy Chaldean walking with a clipboard, thinking that it was probably a student manager, but as he started to walk closer into my distance and towards the varsity team I had realized that it was the head coach of the team. I became a little relieved thinking to myself, well if he had played soccer throughout his whole life he should be able to understand the struggle and difficulty of playing soccer as a short person.

Before reading this book I never thought about resilience in a different way than in sports. The softball coaches here talk a lot about being resilient in our sport. Softball is a game of failure if you get on base 50% of the time you are considered a great hitter. This word is in my everyday vocabulary, but not in the way the book has used it. I do not think the definition of this word changed for me, but I think the context in which the word is used was different for me.
