Perseverance can lead you out of a quagmire when matched with the right character. This is shown in The Hunger Games. Katniss and Peeta exhibit their grit throughout the plot. The Hunger Games takes place in the country of Panem, a dystopian society that is located in North America. The Hunger Games is all about the survival of the fittest. Some tributes are still blanketed with disbelief, but others have prepared all their lives. It is a battle with mental and physical strengths. Katniss awakes and remembers that it is Reaping Day. She and her sister know that they might be the next tribute. Prim is chosen from the bowl, but Katniss Everdeen interferes and takes her sister’s place. Katniss finds Peeta with a severely injured leg. Katniss hides Peeta in a cave. Haymitch sends them a pot of broth. Katniss feeds Peeta, while Peeta tries to be romantic with Katniss. A feast is declared with a backpack with the supplies each tribute needs. Katniss knows that she needs to attend, so she gives Peeta sleep syrup that was given to her by Haymitch. At the feast, Clove is about to kill Katniss, but gets smashed with a rock by Tresh. Peeta’s leg starts to heal after he receives the medicine. Peeta and Katniss kiss and they get a gift from Haymitch. Cato kills Thresh and Foxface eats poisonous berries, leaving Cato, Peeta, and Katniss as the only tributes left. The Game makers force the Peeta and Katniss and Cato together. Cato charges and is hit with an arrow, but the arrow bounces back because of his armor. They all see creatures coming for them and they head to the Cornucopia. Katniss shoots Cato and he falls to the mutations. The previous rule is revoked – only one winner can win. They both are about to kill themselves, when they are both declared winners. They are then prepped for the closing ceremony.
