Person centered therapy encourages the client to be confident in themselves and promote self-understanding. Through a non-directive approach in a supportive setting. While motivating the client to access their inherent ability to advance their lives. Empowering self-actualization and resolution for life’s experiences, through confidence and longevity.
What concepts of the theory make it the most appropriate for the client in the case study? I believe that through the person centered approach, the client can build self-confidence through positive encouragement. Whereas Gestalt therapy can be limited, per Kirchner (2000) the "limitation is related to the fact that a Gestalt therapist uses his/ her own person as a therapeutic medium for change" (Kirchner, 2000). The counselor who uses Gestalt therapy has to be self aware and be able to adhere to the principles of Gestalt therapy. Where person centered is about the individual and the ability to experience life in a positive way. Sometimes a person’s environment is out of their control making their lives seem unmanageable. In my opinion focusing on the client’s environment can be counterproductive. Existential therapy seems to be to focus on immortality and how it impedes your ability to exist and it challenges the client immortality.
What will be the goals of counseling and what intervention strategies are used to accomplish those goals?
The goals of counseling are to promote positive self-image and an openness to experiences. The strategies used to encourage these behaviors are paraphrasing and reflection. Helping the client to develop an internal evaluation system and to become assertive are key. The techniques that will be used to achieve the intended goals are talk therapy and creating a safe environment for personal growth. The therapeutic relationship is essential to the client’s progression.

Person-centered therapy is appropriate for clients suffering from depression, anxiety, substance abuse and personality disorders.
How does this theory address the social and cultural needs of the client?
The person-centered approach is about how the client sees themselves, and the counselor’s ability to convey empathy. The theory was not centered around a group or culture; therefore, it leans its self to be utilized in many collective origins.
What additional information might be helpful to know about this case? The additional information that can be constructive in understanding how the client views self. Therefore, gathering a better understanding on how herself image may be affecting how she response to the world around her, and the many experiences in her life.
