Well hi there, I really appreciate you for reading my autobiographical essay. You may not know me, but you will in this essay. So, I’m going to tell you a little bit about myself. I am the second of 4 siblings, I am a college student/athlete at Indiana Tech. I'm quarter Japanese and mainly American and I’m also a Christian. I probably have a different cultural background than you and that’s okay. People of different cultural backgrounds have to interact with each other. These interactions may lead to strong relationships with one another. It is important to learn about the cultures of people to succeed in working together, one must first understand his/her cultures before he or she can appreciate any other. In your mind, what do you think the term “culture” means to you, to me; I believe the word “culture” mean that it is the way you live and what you do, the language you speak, the food you eat, your manners, your religion, and history. For example, I was born in the U.S, I was taught to speak English when growing up. Later, in my life, I started believing in God and Jesus. My religion was Christianity. For example, during my high school career, there were people that sometimes call me mean names and sometimes picked on me because of my different cultural background. Those people use to call me “stupid Jap” and I felt offended. Also, those people used to hit me and pick on me because one of my cultural groups caused a war in the past. So, I felt like my cultural background really hurt me. There was also a time when my cultural background can be helpful. For example, I am mostly American and mainly people I hang around with are American so we have something similar in our cultural background.
