Personal Essay: My Writing Career

My Writing Career As a young student, I was a student who did not find interest in any type of writing. I am left handed and growing up as a young student, I found writing difficult. I could not see what I was writing growing up which decreased my interest in writing. Throughout elementary school, I was filtered out along with other students who possessed the same abilities in reading and writing to be placed in an advanced learning writing and reading class. Although my interest in writing did not correlate with my abilities, my teachers and mentors expressed my abilities in writing were ahead for my age. My writing skills for my future profession is impacted by my past writing experiences, my strengths and weaknesses in writing; and the writing performed in everyday life. My last official writing course I took was in my final year of high school in 2018. The course was called “College Prep English”. The writing projects consisted of reading old writings from authors like William Shakespeare and write research papers based on the readings. My sophomore and junior year English classes also consisted of writing papers based on Shakespeare, Chaucer, and other old English authors. In comparison to writing in my everyday life, the papers I wrote in my last English classes were more complex than the writing I do in my everyday life. The writing I do in my everyday life is very sparse. Beyond writing notes for class, comments in my HTML and other software programs, and grocery lists I do not do much writing in my everyday life. I consider my sedentary writing life a weakness when discussing my writing skills. In my opinion, I feel that if I simply wrote more, regardless of what I was writing, I would possess better writing skills. As a student at COTC, my field of study is Information Technology. In my major classes, there are plenty of writing assignments however, they are not graded very hard on the English and writing skills. For my future profession, I believe there will be a lot of writing, but, not writing that is critiqued hard on writing and English skills. I believe the writing will be a lot of documentation that is paraphrased and abbreviated in my future profession. I am not sure what exactly I would like to use my technology degree for yet, however, I have shown interest in computer programming, network administration, system administration, and
