This past weekend my softball career came to a complete end. I have spent the last 15 years of my life putting in the hard work, dedication, and endless effort that has brought me to where I am today and I couldn't be more thankful. I have made many friendships along the way that will last a lifetime, and memories that I will cherish forever. Although I'm sad that it has come to an end, I am ready for a new chapter in my life to begin. I want to thank all my coaches and teammates for the continuous support on and off the field, and pushing me to the limits I never thought I could reach.
Baseball is considered by many to be America’s favorite pastime. Softball in many aspects is similar to baseball but in reality it is harder to play. This can be shown in all aspects of the game from hitting to pitching to fielding to catching. One major aspect where the difference is obvious is hitting. Through my 7 years of playing competitive softball, I have gained a greater understanding of myself and the people in my life. The experiences I have endured over time helped me grow not only as an athlete, but as a person. Softball has helped me create some of the most important relationships and memories; the hard work and dedication I have put into this sport has made me the person I am today. It’s crazy to think a sport as simple as softball could have such a major impact on my personal growth.
History of Softball Did you know that softball came about from a football game? At a football game, a Harvard fan threw a boxing glove on the field and someone threw it back at them and the Harvard fan hit it with a broomstick an that is what they used to play the first softball game. There are four different bases like first, second, third, and home(By Barbara Sorensen). There are nine or ten players on the field at once there is a first baseman, second baseman, shortstop, third baseman, pitchers, catcher, and three or four outfielders this is also the same amount of players on a field as baseball(By Barbara Sorensen). You play with a yellow either 9”, 10”, 11”, or 12” ball in baseball then you play with a 9” ball(By Barbara Sorensen).
Being involved in sports teaches vital life lessons that will promote you to overcome challenges you endure in everyday life. The passion and leadership required in the sport of softball reflect the qualities to be successful in my education. My life-long experiences in softball have helped me develop into the person I am today in pursuing my academic career. Through my background of being highly committed to the game, taking on leadership roles and balancing academics with athletics it has prepared me for college. Softball is very meaningful to me and is one of my main commitments.

The softball field at Glendale Community College is now my new home for the next two years. I am a creature of habit; big changes scare me. This is something that has really dominated my personality for the past couple of years. When I was going into the eighth grade, I moved from Richmond, Virginia to Phoenix, Arizona, a place where no one knew who I was and very few were willing to try and figure me out. I had lived my entire life in Richmond and was very unwilling to move. I think this is where my personality really began to evolve.
However, sometimes things happen and people have got to just keep pushing through it. My third year of softball my team was very proficient, strong, and confident. When it came time to go to our first tournament, we were unquestionably excited. We knew we were going to do excellent because our team was undefeated, and with our confidence, we could do anything we wanted.
Baseball the Best Sport Ever We all have a hobby. And maybe that hobby is for a team. A team that is not only active, but also cheerful and good friends. People that cheer on their team and help teammates when they are sad.
One extracurricular that has influenced my personality, outlook on life, and plans for the future, is softball. I have been playing softball since I was a young child, but it was not until recently that I realized why my appreciation for the sport is so great. During the summer between my eighth grade and freshman year, I joined a travel softball team called The Fox River Fury based out of Sheridan, Illinois. The team and I traveled around Illinois competing against other softball teams in our age division.
Think Big Leagues When I play baseball with my friends I have lots of fun, but imagine what it would be like to play on a professional team. My parents dream for me is to be successful and happy, but I have had an interest in baseball since I was four years old. I remember waking up ready to go play a tournament in the fresh summer air. When I watch the games on T.V, Mike Trout always stood out to me.
