1. Executive summary In the modern business environment, leadership plays an important role in our lives. The aim of this leadership development report is to explore how I identify my personal leadership competencies and analyse the strengths and weaknesses at the present time, so that I can intend to develop them in my future time. I would follow the steps to help myself to be an effective transactional leader within five to six years in the service industry such as hotel or shopping center. It is a vague concept; it can be defined in many different ways. Drath and Palus (1994) suggested leadership is the social sense-making process that creates interpersonal influence and it is the procedure of making sense of what people are doing together so that people will understand and be committed. Northouse (2002) concluded that the components of the leadership: (1) Leadership is a process, (b) leadership involves influence, (c) leadership occurs within a group context, and (d) leadership involves goal attainment.
