Three Proposed Personal Leadership Strengths Leadership is not only a learned behavior, it is also a skilled quality trait which not everyone possess. Given my past professional experiences and educational training, I believe there are three strong leadership qualities which I possess, and demonstrate daily, both personally and professionally. These strengths are effective verbal and written communication, an approachable and inspiring personality, and the ability to provide clear direction. The process itself requires communication, attention to detail, and provides direction. A study by Crystal Hoyt and Terry Price (2015), examined the relationship between social roles and ethical decision making. Their study proves that peoples ethical decision making process changes when there is an influence of social difference. Leaders need to be mindful with decision making, and not allow their influence on others to jeopardize the ethical outcome. Daryl Wieland in an article about problem solving states, “The irony of problem solving is that we often have a strong desire to run to the solution, whereas the best problem solving begins with active listening” (Wieland, 2015, p.17). To obtain these two leadership qualities, individuals need to practice both patience and understanding. Likewise, these are two traits that go hand-in-hand with both problem solving and decision making. Out of all the qualities which make up an effective leader, the previous examples pertaining to my individual strengths define not only who I am as a person, but concede to the responsibilities of all leaders as well. As for the areas of decision making and problem solving, obtaining a secured understanding of how to approach each skill comes from practice, patience, and attention to detail.
