Personal Narrative: A Career As An Athlete

Life is tough, but every life is tough in its own way. As a boy growing up with no father figure to look up to and a family with a challenging financial situation I was put to a challenge from the beginning. Many in the same situation seem to crack under the lack of supervision of a parent figure during a young age and seem to diminish their futures. In my case it was different, although not as academically gifted as possible other applicants many aspects can set me apart. Involved in three varsity sports from freshman year of high school devoting time and performing at a higher than average performance, athleticism is something that set me apart. With a predominantly young team we accomplished to win the Western Reserve conference championship in its first year of existence although the odds stacked against us due to injuries and rather strong teams. Track on the other hand is a very individually minded sport that physically and mentally exhausts a person, being on the varsity team since freshman year and being a distance runner it has taught me how to be a better person than anything else. Being one of the superior runners on the team from a younger age being one of the team leaders was very influential and taught me how to cope with people that where struggling along with how to cope with my own physical and mental fatigue. Being named a captain for the upcoming seasons for indoor and outdoor track and field, the excitement is unbearable to help the younger kids to accomplish the goals that they aspire to just as I was when I was their age.
