Personal Narrative: A Story Of An Elderly Woman

In January of 2014, I discovered an elderly woman who lived in a small house the size of the average garage. She was very sick with countless diseases, such as, Diabetes, Lupus, which made her more susceptible to other illnesses, and many other health problems that kept her bound to her bed. The only time she was able to get up was when she had to take her many dogs outside. In early January, she was outside with her dogs and one of them had started to run after another dog that was walking by on the opposite side of the street. In immediate reaction, she tried to run after the dog, but she stepped in a hole and broke her leg. She was outside alone with her dogs who were scattered around a small section of her neighborhood. We rushed towards her and called an ambulance. As she was screaming words that were almost impossible to interpret, she pointed to her dogs that were in every possible direction. My brother and I tried to gather up all of the dogs and put them back into her house. Her husband arrived at almost the same time as the ambulance arrived. She was then rushed to the hospital for immediate treatment. After she, Terri, returned from the hospital a few days after her accident, she could no longer walk without the help of her wheelchair. Sadly, her home was to small and the walkways were too narrow, she could no longer leave her bedroom. She was not able to take her dogs outside, nor was she able to go into the kitchen for a drink, or even a bite of food. She was completely immobile. After the whole incident, I felt obligated to help her. I would now go and take her dogs outside and also I would keep her company for about an hour. I would go every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, in the afternoon when I would return home from school. This lasted for around two months. Terri had recovered and was back to her normal ways of life, until she broke her leg for a second time, the same way.
