Personal Narrative: An Interview With Enerest Cooper
It was the last inning in our all-star game, and we were losing 10 to 8. Our team had 2 outs and we couldn’t get the third. Our pitcher was doing bad, throwing all balls, while all of us in the field were tired, ready to fall asleep at any moment. There goes another walk. They score again.
I have been able to integrate the skills and values I have learned at DePaul to my professional affairs. Throughout my time at DePaul, I have also been a high school baseball coach for Instituto Health Sciences Career Academy. From my experience at DePaul, I have incorporated skills that include team management focused on leadership development, interpersonal communication, personal accountability, patience, and development. In Instituto Health Sciences Career Academy first baseball season, I was able to lead our team to a winning record and a playoff win. As a result of this experience, I believe that my skills would help in assisting the YMCA mission to develop strong children, families, and communities.
Throughout elementary school I kept a small group of friends and I never made any new friends with the exception of one kid, Matthew Peterson. There was a lot of kids throughout my grade school career that would come and live in St. Louis for a year or two and then go to live somewhere else. Most of these kids had parents that worked for Companies that would constantly transfer them to work somewhere else so their kids wouldn 't stick around very long. I was never friends with any these kids, until when i was in fourth grade when I met Matthew. He moved to St. Louis from Arizona and was a nice, kind, and very funny kid that was always had a big crooked smile that ran across his face and through his bright red cheeks.
I could not take it anymore. My choices were to either pick up the phone or do something I could never take back. I picked up the phone and dialed the number of The Trevor Project lifeline, it was time for me to help myself. “Hello, Trevor Lifeline.” “Hi,” I said.
For my week 2 24-hour recall I interviewed my husband E.S. During a conversation held with E. Salcedo (E. Salcedo, oral communication, September 2015) I was able to gather that he is a 42-year-old male Mexican American. He currently is working with machinery and doing maintenance work at different power plants. Furthermore, E.S. job requires heavy lifting and going up and down stairs. He recently started running and exercising three times a week.
Have you ever had something happen and you didn’t understand why? Sometimes things happen and we only see the bad. For example, the explosions of the Challenger in 1986 and the Columbia in 2003. In 1986, seven astronauts and a teacher died when the Challenger broke apart just after it launched. Seventeen years later the Columbia was destroyed on its trip back to Earth, killing all the crew members on board.
Some people have it real easy - there aren 't many Ephraims Goldmans, as my mum could tell you, nor lots of Henriettas Hineses, as testified by my dad. Actually, lots of parents these days opt for a very unique name for obvious reasons - after all, if the only clue to finding your soulmate is their name on your wrist, you 'd better hope they aren 't going to be called a John Smith. On the other hand, all these Phoenixes, Khaleesis and Caspians wandering around? Frankly, it can get really annoying. I had it pretty good - no James Johnson or Darius Maximus on my wrist.
It has been twenty years in the making to create myself. I started out sheltered. So to say, hidden from the real world. Being born and raised it out it the middle of a corn field was rough, but not what you would consider rough. It was all about take it or leave, or fix it or do without.
It happened on June 11, 2015. My lacrosse team won our regional quarter final game the previous day—I scored my personal best of five goals and was named Player of the Game. As a reward for the win, my coach gave us a three hour practice the next day that was strictly conditioning—leaving the seniors 30 minutes to go home, shower, change, and drive to our Senior Dinner at Bowdoin College. I raced home from practice, my sweat sticking to the car leather seats, music blasting, and the wind in my hair. I had the future on my mind: playoffs, graduation, summer, and college.
As an avid fan of the manipulation of language, double meanings of words have always interested me. “Brilliance” with its multifaceted denotations is my favorite word because it accurately describes the essence of who I am. In one aspect, brilliance means “exceptional talent and intelligence”. I am hard working; I achieve high grades in school and use the wisdom I gain in daily experiences. As a leader, I have to use my insightfulness often to think of quick and efficient ways to lead.
Over the summer my best friend and I decided to go to the rodeo that was hosted at the fairgrounds, which subsequently takes place while the fair is going. The rodeo soon turned into a letdown because it had rained the night before. Which made the arena muddy and none of the horses or cattle could maneuver in it.
Every year we all knew what he expected, yet every year we never failed to fall short of these incredibly high standards. He taught me from the very first day I stepped on his field that the only way for me to be successful was to have him push me harder than he pushed everyone else. The meeting that I attended this week was Narcotics Anonymous (NA). NA is a fellowship that includes men and women who struggle with addiction. The members of the group are supporters or recovering addicts, and the purpose is to maintain complete abstinence (Narcotics Anonymous, 2017). Prior to attending the group, I was not informed about the group and was uncertain of what to be expected. Unfortunately, the night that I attended was not a traditional session, as they were celebrating the milestones of a few members.
Leadership interview I was given the chance to interview Hailey Hunt who has a position on student council. She taught me about her position and how she has been able to help others. She has taught me the many sides of being a leader and how it can be quite trying at times. I have found interviewing a leader is very different from researching about a leader.
Your children’s early education is a course to molding and honing their personality and abilities. Each time they encounter new environment, experience, learning, or behavior, it becomes an investment to their individuality. Exposing them in a setting where they can grow and develop holistically will guide them to a rewarding future. TomorrowLand Academy continues to arise a new learning experience for children.
