In his article, Henry Porter argues about the need for creativity. With conformity people begin to use their creative minds less and head for knowledge and reason instead. When it comes to work “...we… [use] just 15% of our intelligence” when the world should be using more of their unique mindsets to improve not only their workplace but the world (Porter). Henry Porter came across a manager of the Pret coffee shop who did not do things ordinarily but took projects to the next level.
Ungar says, “What seemed a radical idea in business education 10 years or so ago- that critical and creative thinking is as “relevant” as finance or accounting- is now commonplace.” (Ungar, 2017, p. 228) The work industry constantly adapts to the world, so, it is crucial to have employees equipped with the skills to understand those changes not only from a stateside perspective, but also from a foreign perspective. Once employers do this, they can apply these changes to their job force. Ideas, that once seemed impossible, now seem ordinary in modern time.
Creative thinking reexamines traditional strategies and practices, while proactively looking for new ideas and ways to improve them. The creative thinker looks at problems and opportunities from a unique perspective. They see patterns and themes that are not immediately apparent to others and have an ability to refine and shape a new idea so it has a higher likelihood of success. Creativity requires developing new ideas and concepts that are effective in resolving situations at hand. The successful CET uses creative thought to observe the internal and external environment to not just solve problems, but to find them before they derail success.
Boom thunder echoed across the sky right before a blinding flash of lightning. I trudged along the walking path from the P.A.C.E. bus station to school. Rain pelted me, and I could only hope that I would make it to the school soon. It was the first day of my freshman year, I had straightened my unruly curly hair; ,y mom had ironed the tan khaki pants that I wore. By the time I got to school, both my hair and carefully ironed pants were completely soaked.
Now this I disagree with this almost completely because I don't consider myself a very creative person. I don't consider myself to be a really boring not creative person but I don't consider myself to be really creative. I see people all around me being as creative as creative gets and I see hardly any of that in me. Being creative means that you can make things up quickly and can also be very much your own thing and very much your own ideas.
You are 10 years old. It is 10:00 at night. You hear noises in your kitchen, then someone walks into your room. They put a bag over your head and take you to a house. They take the bag off and you see other children.
I didn't know I could find such comfort; the feeling of home anywhere but my home. This building: no it was more than that, this creative space, offered so much more than I originally expected from the first interaction. I had an audition for a summer conservatory program, the theatre and voice class specifically, and I remember walking in and feeling something different. It was like I was meant to be there, as tacky as that may sound. When I got the call back saying I was in, I remember how excited I was.
Since as long as I can remember I have always wanted to do one single thing, fly! It didn’t matter whether I was a commercial pilot or a bush pilot or even just a weekend aviator. If I was in the air then I would be happy. It had always been that way, until one day when I went to my uncles ranch for the first time. As soon as I was on that ranch I knew I wanted one when I was older.
Generations Past Generations come, and generations go. When each generation passes, with them goes lessons learned, memories of “good old days,” and advice that is most often right. The previous generations are full of useful information that they have picked up by experience. I always enjoyed listening to the stories of these experiences from family and friends. It was a beautiful fall day, with a crisp breeze floating across the land.
Jessica, My mother, did stick her head in the sand not only concerning puberty but everything else also. I guess I have to remember that my mother grandparents raised her and her twin after their mother died, giving birth to them. My great grandparents were up in age, and I am sure they did not talk to my mother about such things. Unfortunately, my mother stayed with the tradition.
One day me and a boy was arguing because he was making fun of me . I told him to shut his freaking mouth so he called my mom a b word . I got in his face and started calling him names. he got mad to and got back in my face. So we was going to fight and the asistant principal got in the way and grab my arm
“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness,” this line is more than just a quote from classic literature, it almost perfectly describes how college has been for me halfway through the semester. From acing a paper to homework blunders, from making awesome friends to getting in a bad relationship, college is everything you expect it to be, don’t expect it to be and much, much more. What has been the most surprising? There have been many things that I have found surprising, but a couple really stand out.
A hint of sunlight hit me as I dared forward into the depths of the forest, far away into the realm of nature. A zephyr bristled across the brisk forest as it whispered a faint greeting. The trees shed their coats as the crimson leaves glided through the sky with elegance. My thoughts were lost as the beauty of nature immersed me into a different world of grandiose. The silence of the forest surprised me with awe as I stopped in my path and gazed at the serene forest.
It wasn't until May 1st, college decision day, that I decided on taking a constructive year off to work, earn money, and attempt to experience the real world before starting college. My plan was never really well developed until the routine of late summer, when I began to piece parts together. I never had a grasp on what people meant by “roads to success aren’t straight” until I began to actually get involved with my day to day planning, building my own unique structure. While I may not have followed the traditional path to ‘success’ in the eyes of society, I am confident that deviating from the beaten path will propel me in a favorable direction. Come early September, the realization hit me that my best buddies were leaving for their new experiences and I was being left back at home like that teddy bear in the attic.
Time was running out and it was clearly too late to attempt and escape. I was trapped in a scenario and device of my own making. My heart was racing alongside my mind and the ability to formulate a clear thought became almost impossible. As I settled in my seat that cold January morning of 2015, I realized it had been over twenty years since I had been in a similar environment. The thoughts and feelings began to manifest in my head: thoughts of failure, fears of my competency, and the never ending thought of escape.
