Personal Narrative: Bible Study At Zion Covenant Church

I was excited to attend Bible study at Zion Covenant Church in Aurora, Illinois. I had always wanted to attend John Eckhardt’s Church, Crusaders Church in Chicago, Illinois. But, have never found the time. I had read several of Eckhardt’s books; Prayers that Rout Demons; Ordinary People, Extraordinary Power. Those books had so helped me and my family when we needed it. I had found out that Crusaders church had a sister church in Aurora and so I checked it out on line. I made my plan to attend their Tuesday night Bible study. I felt a little lonely walking in by myself, in a room half way full of people. I made sure of a couple things before walking in; that I would look at people in the eye; have a small smile on my face; I would be eager to shake hands with those around me who offered the hand out in salutations; and during worship I would be honoring to those around me. …show more content…

All eyes were closed so they had not recognized that I was there. An hour of prayer was moving and revealing to their dedication to seeking the Lord. Then the music started, and they were ready to worship with voice, clapping and tambourines. One of the women, who I believe was an usher started passing out armfuls of tambourines and when she came to me, she didn’t know what to do. In my heart I so wanted to shack that musical instrument, but she turned from me and proceeded on to the next person in the sanctuary. I was the only Caucasian who attended the Bible Study, (although I know they have a mixed service because of pictures I saw on their web site) and also the only one who didn’t have a
