Daddy, I know that you have felt that you don’t make a difference in the lives of you family, but I want you to know that even though Wayne and I are busy and we don’t talk to you as much as we should or come home as much as we should, I want you to know that I love you very much. You have made a difference in my life. I remember all the times that you had be to help you on the farm, I was not super happy about it at the time. One of those hard knocks has been your health. You were still a young and vital man when you were diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. Your arthritis has been severe. I have watched it take its toll on you body and I have seen how you struggle with how it has robbed you of you independence. I hope you know how sorry I am. But, regardless of how much you hurt and regardless of how much it depressed you, you refused to let it win and continued to work. Even after your doctors told you to retire you kept working. Thank you, daddy. In this you have taught Sabrina, Wayne and me what it is to buckle down and fight. I also know that now you feel that you do not make a difference in the lives of your family. But, you are mistaken. Regardless of everything that you have done that may annoy me or regardless of the things that we disagree over, I know without a doubt that you love me and that you are proud of me.
I was small, but I remember you going hunting so that we would have meat on the table. You are a gentle man and taking the life of another being is not something that you like.
