Dusk had come, silent, ceremonious, which brought her painful but pleasant memories in the diminishing light. Her shaking hands and arthritic fingers from the passing of time were holding the record player’s metal arm. The stylus hopped, moving lightly and quickly over damaged grooves from excessive use, landing very deep in the vinyl recording. She attempted again, one of her hands embracing the other, to the point where the overture’s rewarding hop and crepitation signified the precise spot. The incongruous speakers passed a faint melody of music.

Meet my Jazz band. This is a picture of us in New Orleans my junior year during spring break to play Jazz. I decided upon this picture because this band has had such a profound impact on how I frame my future. My connection with music through the piano has been fostered ever since I could reach those shiny black and white collection of keys. Starting at the age of four, playing the classical music of Mozart and Bach was what my musical background was founded upon, with tangible medals and accomplishments as achievements.

This period of Old English extends from about 450 to 066, the year of the Norman-French conquest of England led by William of Normandy or known as William the Conqueror.” According to About Education “Beowulf may have been composed as an elegy for a king who died in the seventh century, but there is little evidence to indicate whom that king may have been.”
My first experience at the Carolina Country Music Fest was extraordinary. It all started Friday after my friends and I unpacked our stuff at the hotel. After we brief catching up we departed to the Carolina Country Music Fest. During the walk our anticipation grew; Keith Urban was going to plan in less than an hour! As we arrived to the venue, our wrist bands were scanned and we rushed to the stage.
In the story, “Sonny’s Blues” the author James Baldwin wanted his audience to get an idea of what it’s like as an african american male, living in a poor neighborhood, and a dysfunctional family. In this short story, there are two brothers who struggle to support a healthy relationship despite their wrongdoings. Sonny battles with making the right decisions and finding his true identity as he’s faced with so many obstacles. The narrator is the oldest, where he kept a promise from his mother to look after Sonny, and try to help him become a better man, unlike his father. Baldwin captures the audience by detailing everyday trials that the world faces and how we can overcome them.
Growing up in southwest Atlanta, Georgia, I have been surrounded by ‘black success’ instead of just ‘success’ for the duration of my life. The blacks in my area are equally as successful, if not more accomplished than, the non-blacks, but we are always titled separately and put into a captive box. The box we are held in told young girls that they should aspire to be athletes, cosmetologists, or plain unemployed. The same box told young men that they could only be considered “somebody” if they were able to catch a ball well. These are occupations we would ‘best be suited for’; these are occupations that perpetuate the box.
God and church activities have been a part of my weekly routine for as long as I can remember. If it is nine o’clock on a Sunday morning, I will definitely be in a church pew at Highland Baptist Church. My parents make sure that I understand the importance of going to church and trying to exemplify the spirit of Christ daily. I have been given the amazing opportunity to be raised on Godly morals in a strong Christian household. Because of this, God has always been the center of my life, or at least that is what I thought.
This year during college summer break, my friends planned a trip to Dallas, TX to visit the place, where former US President “John F Kennedy was assassinated. President Kennedy was shot dead on November 22,1963 by Lee Harvey, Oswald. Dallas is a three-hour long drive from Houston, TX. All of us were excited for this trip. The trip was a success as for all of us it was a learning experience, as we visited the historical landmark of US history which has influenced us all.
On the day of Sunday April 10th, I went to a jazz ensemble concert at the Trinity University Ruth Taylor Recital Hall. This hall was much larger than the previous performance I attended. My first impression of the group was that they were relaxed and comfortable. For instance, when the drummer winked the drummer gave when the director explained his switch from the trumpet to drums.
