Many people said that it was a terrible day. I arrived at school, before the reporting time. We picked up our shiny, silver and gold instruments and started to play for fun. I could hear people chatting, and section leaders yelling at students to not play, mostly brass instruments. Lucky, I’m not a brass player. Mr. Nutting called us together, and he talked through what we’ll do for today. “…It’ll be amazing performance,” he said. Like always. Four yellow school buses arrived at the auditorium drop-off. We moved into our assigned bus after letting color guards and sousaphone players, because they have flags and huge instruments. Well, it happens every time when I’m on the bus.
The bus stopped immediately, and I was about to fall in to the ground.
When we arrived at school, we heard loud music playing and crowd cheering the from the football field. We moved to the green grass area, with white football field marks, to practice and warm up before our performance. The clear sunny sky started to get darker and darker while we were playing through our music. We set down on the bleacher on the back of the field, and watched other band’s performance. Our band is better, and larger than most of the bands in here.
I felt raindrops on my face, and then it started to rain. We marched as one to perform our outstanding show even though it was a dark and gloomy day for an outside performance. The recorded songs started to play, and we moved to our spot. We started our first song, called Mr. Tambourine Man. Small ensemble started a quiet, beautiful melody, and trumpet player started to play his solo. We had to lay down on the ground facing the sky for the next song. I could feel the rain dropping on to my face, and my uniform getting wet by water. I couldn’t open my eyes.
