Scared. Run. Escape. Those three words encircled my head as I sprinted for my life down the vast, dark room. Sticky, warm blood mixed with salty tears trickled down my quivering face. It was all I could taste and feel. I couldn’t believe she would play games like this, out of all people. The rest of my senses seemed to be completely knocked out. As my fingers trembled, I attempted to grab the knife set barely inches away from me. I’m running out of time. My friend was already gone. “Maybe I’ll find some weapons,” I said to myself. Weapons? I was never the physical type. I pondered why those words slipped out of my mouth. I initially just yearned for some food.
As I headed towards the kitchen, I sensed someone approach me. Swiftly turning to face whoever was planning on frightening me, I grabbed the knife to fight back. “Hello?” I called out. I took a slow, deep breath. “Come out and fight me!”
My friends have always said I put my foot in my mouth. I guess they were right, because as soon as those words slipped, a strange invisible presence grabbed me by the neck. Its cold, gruesome hands had squeezed the life out of me. Struggling to break free of this monster’s headlock, I tried to yell out in agony, but no words came out. I panicked as I could feel my health drain.
I couldn’t breathe. My eyelids grew heavy, and I felt as if my head was going to explode. My future would cease to exist. No one would know what happened with me. With my chest growing tighter and the knife to the floor, I felt helpless for the first time. Three percent. Two percent.
