One grueling afternoon in Gulf Shores, Alabama my baseball team found ourselves down 5-0 in the 3rd inning of the championship game. This game was like the world series for us, we had a chance to be champions of the country. The field had burnt orange clay and a vaguely green grass, the sun was setting making the clouds look like bright pink cotton candy. The best part was you could smell the salt water and hear the seagulls fly above. The team we were playing was called California Elite, they were remarkably intimidating. They had kids that towered over six foot and kids that easily weighed two hundred pounds of pure muscle. Satisfaction ran through me when we were headed into the last inning of the game only down one. I had the conception that we would win this game, until they put in their right handed fire thrower. I was the first to hit off of him and the entire at bat my body shriveled, I’ve never seen someone throw the ball so hard before in my life. On the 6th pitch of the at bat he threw me a heater, but right down the middle, I thought it was gone the second it hit my bat. The ball flew back and back and right off the top of the fence. It was an easy stand up double. I’ve never been so exhilarated in my life, the bench was going psycho. The next batter grounded out advancing me to 3rd, then the next two got walked. Standing on third I could hear my heart racing about to pound out of my chest. The next batter struck out, leaving us to our final out. On third I was shaking because of how nervous I was. The first pitch was thrown, “clack” and then I watched the ball carry back, It was gone! The game was over, all of my bad nerves turned into great nerves as I crossed the plate. Our coached yelled “We did it!” as he ran across the field. I was in complete disbelief that we had just won on a walkoff grand
