On the river
“Strength and growth come only through continuous effort and struggle”. -Napoleon Hill. Over the Summer my family and I took a vacation to the Upper Peninsula and along the way we went on a painful but fun kayaking trip. The weather was mildly hot and the water was amazing for outside activities. Jacob, Dante and I launched our kayaks at around lunchtime into the wavy water of the bay, to try and make it to the waterfalls where we would be picked up. I felt excited to finally embark on the journey after a long confusing car ride.

The decision to turn around and call for help started the return trip. I was in a state of delusion to were I would scream random things and stopped rowing. After we tried taking a break for the one hundredth time with no avail because of the mosquitos and time wasted, I snapped out of my delirium. Fueled with newly found anger and ambition to get home and out of the dreaded river I rowed my oars as fast and hard as I could taking short breaks between every five strokes. I had sped passed Dante and Jacob to the point that I could barely see them
After we got back into civilization I had calmed down and followed a fishing boat with a father, mother, and a child about at the age of three on it, which set the final part of the journey. After Dante got signal pack he called my mom to pick us up and we crossed the threshold that was the overhanging dead trees to the bay. It was around 7:00 pm when we finally got to shore and we were worn to the bone. This is one of my most grueling experiences I ever had and yet one of the greatest experiences, because it gave me a sense of what being on my own was
