“ Just because something isn’t happening to you right now doesn’t mean that it will never happen.” I started hunting when I was ten years old, ( I was twelve at the time this took place). I have seen deer while hunting, but I have never had the chance to shoot a deer. Going into this day, I really thought I was not going to see anything. I still had that little hope though that I would shoot my first deer.
At about two o’clock, my dad and I headed over to the hunting land my dad leased in Wautoma. We drove down a long gravel road to get to the property. I I sat there searching through my phone looking to see if any other people shot a deer. Then I heard it. I quickly shut off my phone and set it down. Louder crunching came from the bottom of the ridge. Once again I set my gun on my lap and waited. I heard it slowly crunching it’s way up the ridge. Then I saw was it was... a deer! I put my gun up slowly and looked through the scope until I found the deer. ( I was shaking so badly I thought I was going to shoot the tree behind the deer. ) I moved my finger on to the trigger, and slowly squeezed it. “ Click” is all I heard. Then nothing happened. So I aimed another time and pulled the trigger. “Click”. I started to get frustrated. I didn’t understand why this was happening. “ Push the safe to fire, and then try again.” My dad whispered. So I did what he said. I put the gun back up and did everything accordingly. This time when I pulled the trigger the deer kicked its back legs and I quickly put another bullet in the gun.
